The main character of this book is a freshman boy. He loves baseball and was a great pitcher until he messed up his elbow during the summer before his freshman year. His grandfather is his hero, and he loves to go out taking pictures with his grandfather. After his injury, the doctor tells him that he will no longer be able to play baseball. He is heartbroken and doesn't know how to tell his best friend who is also a great baseball pitcher. They are a pitching/catching team. One pitches to the other and vice versa.
He is really struggling to find another niche for himself. Photography might be it. His grandfather suddenly gives the boy all of his photography equipment and he finds himself in an advanced photography class with a really cute girl. He is awkward with her, but really likes her, so this is going to be a true test for him. Even though his friend seems to be the cuter and studlier of the two boys, she seems to be interested in him.
I really like this kid because I know it would have been pretty devastating for me if I'd have been unable to play sports again in high school. Especially if I was as good as he was. I also can relate because I've never been really good with dating and flirting. It has always been pretty awkward, so I can laugh with him instead of at him :O)
